HR Automation & Role of AI : Blog 02

Development of HRM to HR automation

The HRM is initially referred to as Industrial welfare and then as Personnel management with a narrow consideration of employee practices. With the change in social and economic activities, it emerged as Human Resource Management (HRM). (Ahammad, 2017). Organizations were using in-person practices with more manual and written work. Physical meetings were consuming much time while evaluation was needed for accurate decision making.

The auditory purposes also were mainly fulfilled by manual and documented proofs. With the influence of technology, HR operations are used to computerized data mainly through Excel sheets where payroll and attendance management.

HR automation

“HR Automation allows businesses to increase their productivity by utilizing its resources to complete projects without hindering the standard of business jobs. It manages a variety of crucial daily responsibilities, such as choosing individuals with certain abilities, filing papers, presenting information, generating and exchanging files, etc.” (Mishra, et al., 2021). This will emphasize that automation is all about applying updated technology to daily tasks and reducing or eliminating manual work.

However, when concerned with future trends HR automation is applied where all the functions of HR are replaced with software applications and AI tools, such as CRM, ERP, and MIS. Functions like recruitment are automated paper advertisements to online web posting and now AI implications are there to attract a target talent pool. Online interviews and AI resume screening applications are widely emerging in the industry.

Ex: The recent introduction of the AI tool Manus helps HR to resume screening and interviewing. It is
not just a typical AI tool but a process that sets the future of HRM more easily.

Training and Development is another phase of HR growth into future trends in automation. Automation involves transforming the operational aspects of HRD, for continuous improvement and streamlining HRD processes across the organization. (Agrawal et al.,2023). The training was automated with Virtual Reality(VR), and e-learning which identifies individual training needs and customized training sessions are available at employee portals to take into practice with flexible timelines. So HR management is only required to motivate and drive employees to take part of those trainings. Ex;- Giving awards, certificates, and allowances for finishing VR training and using them in work.

Furthermore, employee engagement has increased with the automation of work where employees are well recognized and compensated well for their real efforts. Clear communication throughout the organization has been enhanced by automation and ultimately for employee engagement

ROLE of AI

The role of AI typically relies on making work easier and requires less brain work from employees. The technical capability will be more required in the HR division even to handle AI tools more than the human and personnel skills where as AI gives all the solutions to any kind of issue or grievance.

Generation Z is showing more tech- characteristics, that they are more into mobile phones and AI-generated implications, and seemingly they don’t develop such human skills unless their parental influence. That is something that comes with the world trends and what is currently in the society, social media influence and technological improvements have impacted their brain functionality.

When this new generation comes to workplaces as a workforce, we have to accept the fact that the technological environment they have grown up in. So As HR managers, it is good to get use of their technological capabilities in automation rather than criticizing their behavior. It is acceptable that they do not have much analytical thinking power and empathy in most situations but they are really fast and accurate in using automated software and applications. These aspects can apply to HR automation as well.

In conclusion, it is acceptable that all the aspects of human resource Management have been influenced by technology automation. moving with rapidly changing human skills and capabilities HRM should focus on customized, latest applications to make HR functions more effective and efficient.
